Power thieves in the home

We often don't think about the appliances that consume the most electricity in our homes, because they are such a natural part of our everyday lives. We've written this article to make you aware of electricity consumption that we miss, and where we can make the biggest difference if we want to reduce our electricity consumption. Is some electricity consumption unnecessary or is it something that is absolutely essential to your lifestyle? The answer is individual, and think about what you can do to make a difference in your daily life.

 

 

  1. Heating

Heating of your home stands for about 80% of the total electricity consumption. This is obviously important, especially during colder seasons, so that we can stay warm and comfortable. But the fact is that lowering the indoor temperature by only one degree reduces heating costs by 5%. You could try lowering the temperature a little, for example, and experiment to find a temperature that you're comfortable with.

 

  1. Under floor heating and towel dryers

These are things we often forget to turn off because they are hidden, and therefore they consume a lot of electricity. Make sure you turn off the towel dryer when you're not using it, and the underfloor heating in warmer seasons. It's a simple thing to do and it can reduce electricity consumption a lot.

 

  1. Washing machine and tumble dryer

This is where a lot of electricity is consumed, and the biggest energy thief is the tumble dryer. The way to get around it is to ask yourself - can I air dry my laundry? As for the washing machine, you can wash at lower temperatures and make sure to load the washing machine properly each time you wash, so you need to use it fewer times.

 

  1. Lightning

Lighting consumes a lot of electricity in the home. One way to reduce this is to switch to LED and low energy lamps instead of regular lamp bulbs everywhere, and turn off lights when you leave the room and those that are not necessary to be kept on. Use our branch outlet and connect more lights to the same socket, then you can easily turn them all off at the same time.

 

  1. Fridge, freezer and dishwasher

These are on 24 hours a day and therefore consume a lot of electricity. Some things you can do to reduce consumption are to make sure you keep fridge and freezer doors tightly closed. Frost the freezer regularly. Make sure the fridge is set to the recommended temperature at +5°C and the freezer to -18°C. Older appliances can draw more power than new ones, so investing in new ones can reduce electricity consumption here.

 

  1. Elektronics in stand by mode

Around 10% of electricity consumption at home comes from appliances that are in standby mode. You can connect your devices to our branch outlet so it's easy to turn off more appliances at the same time, and you can easily see when appliances are on.
